Opal Fire Ring

from 180.00

This ring was inspired by a ring I made for my mother during my first year at Grand Valley State University when I was just beginning my journey as a metalsmith.

Boulder opals are found in Queensland, Australia where they are mined from large ironstone boulders found underground. That's where thin veins of colorful opal form, in the fissures and cracks of the boulder. Because the opal is so thin, stone cutters usually leave a thick layer of ironstone to back it and form a proper sized stone.

*The finished ring with the blue and green opal is a size 6. If you chose to purchase one of the loose opal stones for a ring be sure to let me know your size in the message section when you checkout.
